At the Victoria Fringe 2014

From windswept coasts to a land beneath the waves, Scottish collective Voice Box Theatre invites you on a multi-sensory journey.

Seamlessly blending the physical and the theatrical, we draw on Scotland's rich tradition of stories and songs.

A modern adaptation of an ancient Celtic myth. Selkie Tales is Circus Storytelling with acrobatics, dance, juggling, mime and puppetry.

Voice Box Theatre is a performance collective, based in Edinburgh, Scotland. After last years successful performance of Grendel at the Edinburgh Fringe 2013, we are coming to Victoria this year with Selkie Tales, our latest creation.

Selkie Tales is a triple bill of short stories, each story is told with a variety of techniques to provide an engaging, entertaining and inspiring experience for our audience.

The Seal and the Cormorant

Told through spoken word and shadow dance. A tale of two sisters, and a terrible deed. Love, magic and the cold North Wind all play a part in this adaptation of a Classic Scottish Story.

The Blue Men of the Minch

Two Sailors, making their way home after an age at sea encounter the infamous mythical Blue Men in a hillarious clown display of acrobatics, juggling, and hat manipulation.

The Blue Men of the Minch is told in the style of an early 20's silent movie, complete with projected intertitles and honkey-tonk piano.

The Selkie Wife

Our feature performance. Cross-diciplinary and multi-sensory. Hertbreaking, beautiful, tragic and uplifting. Featuring multi-media from visual artist Roween Suess. Visually enchanting as layers of transparent drapes are suspended from the ceiling. The audience is invited into an otherworldy experience of movement, colour and sound.

Voice Box is following their run at the Victoria Fringe with a tour down the West Coast of America into Mexico to undertake an educational performance project where they will lead a program of cross-diciplinary workshops over the course of two months, culminating in a performance and festival celebrating Mexican and Scottish cultural exchange. They will travel through the USA, offering performances and workshops as they go, raising funds and awareness through street, caberet and gallery performances. They are, as always, open to new adventures and collaborations.

Press interest is warmly welcomed. We really want to raise as much awareness as possible about our Mexican Project. We will aim to do a photocall when we arrive in Victoria, and are happy to provide bountiful information and write-ups on request.

We are eclectic, colourful and highly photogenic. To see some pictures of us please follow this link!
